For over a century, Witherspoon Presbyterian Church choirs have offered audiences a wide range of choral music of the finest quality, performing music from all historical periods and styles, from Handel’s Messiah to Gospel music and Negro Spirituals. The choral ensembles of Witherspoon expand all aspects of the artistic spectrum, as a means of continually celebrating the African American experience through choral music and the arts as a whole. There are currently 4 resident choirs within Witherspoon: the Sanctuary Choir, the Virtuous Voices Women’s Choir, the Voices of Thunder Men’s Chorus, and the Voices of Light Ensemble. Anyone interested in joining any of Witherspoon’s choral ensembles are encouraged to contact the Worship and Arts Ministry Team Chair! , Minister of Music or Jillian Harrison-Jones, Director of Choirs Music. No audition is required!

Join a Witherspoon Choir
The Sanctuary Choir
Under the direction of Sherman Williams, the Witherspoon Sanctuary Choir provides musical leadership for the 1st and 2nd Sunday of each month. The Sanctuary Choir is an SATB ensemble, and while some ability to read sheet music is recommended, it is not required. All who have a desire to regularly serve the Lord through song are encouraged to join the Sanctuary Choir. Rehearsals are Thursdays, 6:30-8:30PM.
The Virtuous Voices of Witherspoon Women’s Choir
The Virtuous Voices of Witherspoon is an SSA women’s choir that provides musical leadership for the 3rd Sunday of each month. Under the direction of Dr. Jillian Harrison-Jones, this ensemble is open to women in high school and beyond, and this ensemble offers a unique experience of worship through song with women of various backgrounds and experiences, who fellowship together in and out of the regular Sunday services. Any woman who has a desire to share in this special experience, you are encouraged to join! Rehearsals are Wednesdays, 6:30-8:30PM.
The Witherspoon Men of Faith Male Chorus
The Witherspoon Men of Faith Male Chorus is a TBB men’s chorus that participates in select worship services and special events throughout the year. Under the direction of Sherman Williams, this ensemble is open to men in high school and beyond, and this ensemble offers a unique experience of worship through song with men of various backgrounds and experiences, who fellowship together in and out of the regular Sunday services. Any male who has a desire to share in this special experience, you are encouraged to join!
The Voices of Light Ensemble
The Voices of Light Ensemble is a small, select SATB praise team that provides musical leadership for the 5th Sunday of the months of September through May, and 4th and 5th Sundays in June and August. This ensemble offers an opportunity to engage in a small, intimate 4-5 voice ensemble where its singers carry strong characteristics of independence and high energy. This ensemble is also a way to become involved on a short-term basis, without the demand of a weekly rehearsal schedule. Opportunities to sing solos are also available for those who are interested.
